Public responsibility for water management
Good ideas require commitment, as well as active partners, proponents and publicity. Water management has traditionally been a public-sector task in Germany – a good idea that has proven its value. Compared to the rest of Europe, the German water supply and wastewater disposal industry sets standards in terms of efficiency, safety, quality, customer service and sustainability, and enjoys high acceptance with its customers.
For the future, too, it remains a good path to leave this public service in the public sector. The objective is to continue to ensure reliable, ecologically sustainable, and in particular cost-effective water Management supply. We believe that public service should be oriented towards the well-being of the community, and not to generating and privatising profits.
We at EMSCHERGENOSSENSCHAFT and LIPPEVERBAND are actively involved in water management organisations in Germany, in order to promote this good idea.
