Cooperation project 'Together for the New Emscher Valley'

Above all the city districts along the Emscher and its subsidiary waterways, whose processes of economic and social change mean that today they constitute problem locations, are benefiting from the once-in-a-century project that is the Emscher Conversion. Through the construction of the state-of-the-art underground sewer and the ecological restructuring of the Emscher and its subsidiary waterways, now free of wastewater, there are countless possibilities for improving the quality of life and ecological situation in these city districts. This applies in particular where various partners support the transition together, and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the EMSCHERGENOSSENSCHAFT have recognised it.

Since as early as 2006, numerous joint projects in the field of urban development promotion have been initiated and implemented under the cooperation agreement between the EMSCHERGENOSSENSCHAFT and the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Urban Development and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. When it comes to bringing the cooperation agreement to life, creative ideas are called for: whether cultural events, city district festivals, educational water trail, stream sponsorships, or rainwater projects, these are projects that show the commitment of the people along the Emscher.
